CAN YOU EXPLAIN HOW DID THE BAND NAME BORN AND WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
All the good names are already taken… hahaha, honestly we don’t know, we were thinking many possibilities before choosing Crimson Slaughter.
WHO ARE THE BAND MEMBERS AND WHERE ARE THEY FROM? IF YOU ARE A ONE-MAN BAND, CAN YOU PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS CHOICE?
We are Víctor Sánchez (bassist and vocalist), Fran Rodríguez (lead guitarist), Daniel Zolyniak (lead guitarist) and Joe Homobono (drummer). Crimson Slaughter was born from the ashes of many years of hard work and dedication. We have a story under another name band throughout nearly a decade. During this period of time, we (Fran and me) had increased our talent and professionality to the point of became perfection obsessed; unfortunately, I cannot say the same about the other people who at that time formed the band. This created a breach between us that grew over time until the critical mass point which burst in the first day of the album recording, unleashing the band dissolution.
TELL US PLEASE SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR LAST JOB.
We are actually promoting our debut album “Cycle of Decay”, totally selfproduced, available through Bandcamp.
DO YOU HAVE PREVIOUS EXPERIENCES BEFORE YOU FORMED THE BAND?
We have passed through many different bands, such as Cult Destroyer, Atrocyted, or Mind Hunters.
WHAT ARE YOUR MUSICAL INFLUENCES?
That’s very difficult to say… We are musicians before thrashers, even metal-heads… so we have many influences that we have been acquiring and compiling through years of musical self-improvement, and this irremediably and unconsciously ends by introducing that influences into our music. We love Thrash Metal, Death Metal, Crossover Thrash, old Grindcore, progressive, Jazz, Blues, Country, Cuban… Even gangster Hip-Hop from early 90’s! We have no particular attachment or influence of an artist or band defined but rather the musical current that many bands have created over the past three decades. But if I have to name someone… We’re true fanatic fans of Slayer and Death, and Chuck Schuldiner is nothing less than a spiritual guide for us (Besides one of the best musician, composer and lyricist in the entire Metal history).
REGARDING THE SONGWRITING, TELL US PLEASE SOMETHING ABOUT THE TEXTS. WHO TAKE CARE ABOUT THE LYRICS?
Víctor (bassist and vocalist) takes care of the lyrics. Our lyrics talk about the shitty world we live in. It’s that simple. Everybody knows about social inequality, the banking siege, corporatocracy, false flag terrorism, government's pay, surveillance states, the third world constant slaughter, modern slavery... But we are all in this cruel reality sedated by empty and moronic distractions like stupid TV shows, one-sided news, and false governments that envenoms our brains all day every day. We do not intend to inform anyone or get them to open their eyes to this reality, because they already know it! We want to remind people that they are living in this world, and even though they look the other way, people will continue dying in the name of economic interests and neoliberalism.
HOW IS BORN THE ARTWORK? WHO CREATED IT AND WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
The artwork was born as a collage concept of all the world’s decay, through various edited photos (in a very Napalm Death-esque/Terrorizer-esque way). Many hours of work we’re put in the design (first on paper, then passed through Adobe Illustrator). The original concept was made by Víctor, and the Illustrator work was made by Joe.
DO YOU SING IN ENGLISH OR IN ANY OTHER LANGUAGE? WHY THIS CHOICE?
Because the vocalist can’t conceive thrash metal in any other language but English (laughs).
WHERE DO YOU CREATE YOUR MUSIC?
Víctor and Fran create our music in their respective homes.
CAN YOU TELL SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR LIVE EXPERIENCE? DID YOU PERFORM SOMEWHERE SO FAR? HOW IS YOUR APPROACH WITH THE PUBLIC?
Every show for us is memorable, for any kind of reasons. We still haven’t played outside Madrid, and there have been some cheesy moments in our live experiences, some broken strings, many sound problems, and some nearly flawless awesome gigs. We tend to be extremely self-critical, and sometimes this ends playing against us, but we keep on learning and trying to make each show better than the previous one. Our approach with the public can be resumed in a Slayer kind of attitude: Almost no talking and playing loud and fast. We prefer bringing a good show, musically speaking, rather than speaking more than necessary.
CAN YOU PLEASE GIVE US ANY INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR RELEASES?
We are actually promoting our debut album “Cycle of Decay”, totally selfproduced, available through Bandcamp, that’s the only release we have by the moment, although this may change next year. In a good case scenario, we’ll enter the recording studio and our second album will come out.
IF YOU HAVE PREVIOUS PUBLICATIONS, WHAT ARE THE CHARACTERISTICS THAT DIFFERENTIATE THEM FROM EACH OTHER?
There are no previous material from us, this album is the first thing we do as a band.
IN ITALY THERE ARE MANY METAL BANDS. GIVE YOUR OPINION ON MUSIC SCENE TODAY IN OUR COUNTRY.
Your music scene is little known in our country, we do know a few bands, but they are stylistically (thrash metal) related to us, such as Ultraviolence, Shock Troopers (that Metal Slug intro) or Game Over.
WHAT’S THE REASON YOU DECIDED TO PLAY A SPECIFIC INSTRUMENT?
Víctor started playing the bass because of his elder brother played it when he was younger. I (Fran) started playing the bass because my uncle lend me one, but I quickly shifted into guitar thanks to my father, who is a guitarist, and taught me the basics.
IF YOU SHOULD CHOOSE TO BE PART OF A FAMOUS BAND, FOR EACH OF YOU, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
VÍCTOR: I think that I would really enjoy playing bass in Napalm Death, but unfortunately, I'm not up to Shane Embury.
FRAN: I would play along Luc Lemay in Gorguts until my dick fall off. (laughs).
YOU CAN END THE INTERVIEW AS YOU LIKE...
FRAN: For those who love Thrash Metal above all or Metal in general and don’t know us yet, check out our stuff and spread our music, you can hear our music in our Facebook and Bandcamp. Stay metal!
VÍCTOR: If you like Thrash and you’re tired to hear that Thrash Metal is dead or you’re tired to hear anything but Thrash from the self-called Thrash bands, you have to listen Crimson Slaughter. We will send you two/three decades back when Metal was still Metal and people used to create their own music instead of imitate older bands to get money through nostalgia.
